The research project “The Renaissance Musical Work: Foundations, repertories and practices” funded by the Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad [HAR2015-70181-P] based at the University of Valladolid, aims to study the Renaissance musical work as a sonorous act. The principal objectives are: revision of the concept of a musical work, the philological study and publication of a group of representative works, the historical-acoustic analysis of selected renaissance spaces, the performance and recording of the representative works in the selected spaces, and to carry out an initial evaluation of the how they would have been perceived in their own time.

The team, which comprises a group of international researchers, was initially established in 2006 with the objective of carrying out the RDI project “El mundo musical urbano en la Corona da Castilla (siglos XV al XVII): producción, difusión y recepción” (The urban musical world in the kingdom of Castile during 15th–17th centuries: production, distribution and reception) [HUM2006-00438], continued by “Musica y cultura en el Reino de Castilla (siglos XVI al XVIII): Fuentes, contexto y comunicación” (Music and Culture in the Kingdom of Castile in the 16th and 17th centuries: Sources, Context and Communication) [HAR 2011-30272-C02], prior to the present one.
